Solar & Battery Questions, Explained Simply

Useful answers to the questions customers ask before making a solar or battery decision.

Is solar still worth it?

It can be, but the value depends on how much electricity you use, when you use it, roof/site conditions, tariff and future needs such as EV charging.

How big should my battery be?

Battery size should match available energy and later demand. Bigger is not automatically better.

Do I need a hybrid inverter?

Not always. The right path depends on your existing inverter, battery type, system age and whether the solar system is being expanded.

How does an EV change solar sizing?

An EV can add substantial annual electricity use. When you charge it matters just as much as how far you drive.

Is a battery worth it if I already have solar?

It may be if you export useful solar during the day and then buy electricity later. Exports, later grid use, tariff and inverter compatibility are key.

Why is my bill still high with solar?

Possible reasons include high evening use, an undersized system, increased household load, low export value or system underperformance.

More solar or a battery?

If you still buy a lot of daytime electricity, more solar may come first. If you already export a lot and buy later, a battery may be worth investigating.

Should I replace an older solar system?

Age alone is not enough. Performance, inverter condition, compatibility, current needs and the economics of replacement should be considered.

What should a good solar proposal include?

The current situation, recommended solution, why that size was selected, pricing, expected generation, estimated savings, incentives and assumptions.

Why compare more than one option?

Comparing solar-only, solar + battery or different sizes can make the trade-offs in cost, savings and payback much clearer.

Are savings guaranteed?

No. Savings are estimates based on usage, tariffs, system performance and other assumptions. A good proposal should make those assumptions clear.

What happens after I accept?

The accepted project is handed to the appropriate installation partner, then I stay involved through follow-up and issue resolution where needed.
